I really try to avoid seeing most people from my high school. It’s not that I don’t like the people I went to school with. For the most part I have no opinion what so ever about them. I never got into gossip, sports, or school spirit, so I didn’t have a ton in common with most kids, but I don’t dislike any of them. Most are actually pretty decent people. My problem is that I haven’t gone in the direction that lot’s of my old class mates have taken. Whenever I see one of them, they go one and on about their kids and spouses and how they hate their jobs and Lubbock, but they gotta do what they gotta do for the fam. Either they have families now, or great jobs, nice cars, and new houses….Or sometimes a combination of it all. I, on the other hand, don’t want kids, am no where near being married and am not in a hurry to buy a house or be saddled with the responsibility or a career. I don’t feel like I am behind in life though. I’m doing exactly what I want to be doing. I went to school like I was supposed to, got a degree, then went on to learn that there is a huge world out there that I want to be an active part of. I don’t want to plant myself in a specific little corner of the earth and make babies and spend my husband’s money. I just don’t. If I ever do have a family, I want to be sure I have the time and energy to put into it. Right now I don’t. Besides the fact that I just don’t like kids, I wouldn’t want one unless I could support it independently, just in case the need arises. Right now, I can think of a million things I would rather do with myself than get pregnant or otherwise obligated to stay still. When people I used to know ask what I’ve been up to these days, I hate telling them that I’ve just been moving, traveling, and avoiding growing up. They give me the polite nod and customary “That’s neat.” reply. You don’t have to have a career, and or kids to be productive. All that means is that your busy and reproductive. I’ll get around to whatever I want to be doing when I damn well please!
