I like cross-over artists. I think it says a lot about a singer who is able to switch from one genre of music to another without sounding like a jackass. Taylor Swift is a great example of an artist who just has pure talent. She sounds great live and recorded no matter who her audience is. Taylor Swift didn’t gain her popularity by acting seductive or hiding behind a group. Her success can be attributed to years worth of trying and a work ethic that puts most of us to shame. There is also something very genuine about her voice and the songs she writes. It is almost impossible not to enjot listening to an artist with so much talent and ambition. Recently, Darius Rucker, best known as the lead singer and guitarist for Hootie and the Blowfish, has tried his hand at country music. “Learn to Live” has been a huge hit for Darius as he has been warmly welcomed into the realm of country music. This just goes to show that those with true talent do not have to stick to a certain fan base. They can be appreciated by everyone because they are genuinely outstanding musical artists. I’m not saying that if someone doesn’t easily make the transition from one genre to the next, they are not talented. That just means they are not as versatile. That weird stint with Garth Brooks becoming Chris Gains is a great example of an artist being great…just not very versatile.
