What is your favorite plant? Have you ever really thought about it? Do you even have a favorite plant? Is thinking about your favorite plant just an unimportant waste of time? Well, I guess that’s all relative. If botany is your profession, or bonsai is your hobby, than chances are you do have a favorite flora and it’s actually quite important in your little world. All of us have our own little worlds in which we place importance on various items or concepts. I, for example, have a favorite bone. It’s the clavicle. For one thing I think the fluidity in the lines of the collar bones are beautiful aspects of the human body. Another reason I dig this bone is because it’s useful and reliable when counting osteons to determine the age of a skeletal specimen. Does this matter to most of the world’s population? Absolutely not and I’m 100 percent okay with that. I’m studying forensic anthropology and in my world, the clavicle plays a big role in my work and research. I do not find the weather to be of any major importance in my life though. If it’ cold, I’ll dress warm. Studying the forecast online or during the newscast isn’t one of my priorities nor will it ever be but for some people this is a very important part of their day. Different strokes for different folks. All I’m saying is don’t poo poo what others find important because like beauty, importance is in the eye of the beholder. We should all be happy that everything is of importance to someone out there because that is how progress and innovation come about.
