When I was younger, most often you’d find me on Halloween as a pumpkin, a princess, or just about anything you could buy at Wal-Mart. But, when we got to be a little older, we started wanting to get a little more creative with out costumes and have our own input. One year, my sister wanted to be a Hershey’s kiss. My grandma and dad made the costume together, and it was probably the cutest thing I had ever seen for a young girl. It was metallic silver, stuffed with fluff to make it pop out at the bottom. She had a silver little pointed hat that covered the majority of her head, with a perfectly painted felt Hershey’s kiss tag. It was so cute, I couldn’t wait to be able to wear it myself but I was too young at the time and it didn’t fit me yet. I was it a few years later when I grew into it and finally got to wear the coveted costume. I love when people go all out and get really creative with their costume ideas, instead of just heading to Wal-Mart to pick up what ever they can get. The video below is the absolute best costume I have ever seen for a little boy. It is so realistic, and compeltely home made. He’s walking around like it’s heavy, but if you read the description it’s just cardboard and spray paint. I want to make one of these!
I love watching the CMT show about the Dallas Cowboys’ cheerleader tryouts. I’ve followed the show since it started. I just read an article about one of the cheerleaders dressing up as Lil Wayne for Halloween, which I think is pretty funny. The pictures of her are hilarious, and it was an original idea for a Halloween costume. BUT, of course, as with everything fun there has to be some kind of trouble. Some people are offended by the costume, I’m not sure if it’s because she painted herself black and posed like a rapper in the pictures or if it’s because he is about to go to jail. Either way, it’s fucking Halloween. Be what ever you want to be, and if it’s offensive to a few people then that can be their problem. I don’t think when she dressed up for Halloween she had the intentions of going out and making sure that people were offended by the costume she chose. She just put it on and knew that she would get a lot of laughs out of it, just like most people do for Halloween. Last year a friend of mine dressed up as Obama. I painted him black, we got a wig and he wore a name tag. I thought it was a pretty good costume idea, but of course when we went out some people got pissed about it. It’s all in good fun, take that stick out of your ass and leave her alone. If she gets kicked off for something like this I am going to be pissed off.
Halloween is by far my favorite holiday. It has been ever since I was little. Most people would tell you that their favorite holiday is one where you receive presents such as Christmas or your birthday but not me! I like the holiday where your dress up as someone your not, bust out scary decorations and hand out candy to random kids. Sounds pretty funny huh? In years past, my mom would dress my sister and I up with matching costumes. It was cute at first, but once I hit 8, it was time to branch out on my own. I was a 50’s girl, a hersheys kiss, a hippie, sporty spice from the spice girls… When I was in junior high, Halloween meant the time of year to “wrap” the boy’s house that you liked. Very juvenile and kind of funny now that I think about it. One mom would pile about 5 or 6 girls in an SUV and pretty much stalk the boy’s house to make sure there was no activity. Then, all the girls would jump out armed with as much toilet paper as possible, hoist them into the trees as fast as they could, and repeat this over and over again until it looked like a blizzard had hit Dallas in the middle of October. Now that I’m older and have my own house, I decorate like crazy every year. I hope my daughter grows up to love Halloween as much as I do!
