Body
I really respect women from the 50’s. They always seemed so well put together. They had great hair and were manicured and pedicured twenty-four hours a day. They also wore a lot of very defined make up that would be hard for anyone to keep up with all day. In addition to their top-quality grooming, these women were still stuffing themselves into girdles, corsets, and Lycra to smooth out any bulges that may try to poke out from under perfectly pleated and ironed skirts. Do you know how much effort these women put into themselves each and every day? Looking like a typical 50’s housewife must have been a full time job in itself! All of those soft, pinned curls piled inches high on their heads have to have been projects that were started the night before. Just imagine sleeping on curlers every night and fighting with a corset to breath every day. It had to be absolutely exhausting. Granted, Not many women worked in the 50’s, but who had time to when you were expected to look refined from head to toe night and day? I’m sorry but practicing that much maintenance on top of cooking, cleaning, and putting on a good front for the neighbors takes a lot of energy. It’s no wonder half of these women were using cocain products to get through the day. If these women could bring their work ethic and energy into jobs today, we would be able to accomplish much more and look great doing it.

Death
Cemeteries were created from the ancient belief that a body have to be whole and complete for it’s soul to make it to Heaven. Well, that and burying the dead is a more sanitary option than leaving them out and about. But people were placed in coffins to help the body remain whole for Heaven. Way back when, the punishments for the most heinous crimes consisted of decapitation or other means or breaking the body so that the soul would never be allowed into Heaven. But then again, way back when, thievery and treason were some of the worst acts you could commit. Murderers and rapists still got to stay whole and repent. So….clearly we have moved on and secretaries have become a pretty dated means of laying our loved ones to rest. No matter how expensive a coffin is, or how comfy it feels, nature will take it’s course. Tree roots will permeate the coffin walls, water and ice will cause cracks and the acidity of the earth will eventually erode it away. However, this process can take decades and these days, the cemetery will likely be uprooted and relocated before any of that happens to make room for a new subdivision. So much for resting in peace. Today, it makes more sense both spatially and financially, to have loved ones cremated. Keeping a body intact for Heaven went out the window when most deaths began to require an autopsy before the body is released for services. Organ donation is also a worthy cause that ensures a body’s incomplete arrival to Heaven. I think most people would agree that a persons admittance or denial to walk through the Golden Gates isn’t contingent on the condition of the body that they left behind.

General
Getting older has it’s pros and cons. The cons are that I look older and have to pay for things. I think the pros make up for the cons though. It’s a fair trade off. I am more confident in who I am and in my abilities not that I’m ion my late 20’s. I’m also a better judge of character than I used to be. I can go on a couple of dates with a guy and pick out the red flags before I get involved. I’m old enough to do absolutely anything I want now. I can buy cigarettes, porn, booze, rent cars, buy cars, buy houses (which is something I’m totally not even a little bit interested it), take a trip around the world, and cuss around my parent. I like knowing the things I know now and love the fact that I can do anything I want. I’m at a point where I can choose any path I want and have no responsibilities that I can’t shake off if I want to go live in Peru for a few months. Just because I am in my late 20’s doesn’t mean I have to act like it. I can still go climb trees and paint with my fingers if I want. The only drawback to not acting your age is that you can come off as flaky, eccentric, or weird to people who have embraced an unnecessary lever of maturity. There’s no reason you can’t still do back flips on a trampoline or take a road trip with your friends just because your 35. True, you may have to schedule and save more money to be able to keep all the things you like, but you can still get away for a weekend and act a fool every now and then. I guess that’s easy for me to say, but for me it’s true and I will always do what I can to keep it that way.

Friendship
The biggest problem in the world today is that no one trusts another person. Unfortunately the population cannot depend on a man’s word like they could years ago. In the old days a man could tell someone that something is going to be done and shake on it and that was a binding contract between two people. I began to ask myself do you even tell someone you will do something for them or do you just do it? I have not figured out in today’s society which one is better. On one hand the other person knows what to expect from you but do they really trust what you say? Then you could always just do what you feel like you need to without telling the other person and then they are mad because they didn’t know about it. It is becoming a large problem and sometimes I am unaware of what to do in these situations. When you ask for advice from someone all they can tell you is that it is a hard decision to make and that you should make it yourself. Seriously sometimes I don’t get it. I wish that I lived in the old days when only a man’s hand shake was what mattered and the women had no worries except the home life. It would make my life a lot easier than trying to choose what is best.

Time
So there’s definitely not enough time in the day for me to get things done these days. I work a full time job and I’m also a full time mother. I stayed at home with my daughter for 8 months after I had her and then it was time to get the ball rollin’ and start making some money. My daughter had already started going to day care three days a week because I took a couple of college classes for a little while. When she started daycare full time, I wasn’t nervous or sad because she’s such a good baby. She loves everyone! Anyways, because I used to be a full time mom, I like for my house to be extremely neat and tidy at all times. I was used to being able to clean whenever I pleased, my favorite thing. Strange, I know. My dishes were always done, my carpet vacuumed, and everything sprayed with Lysol, my absolute favorite cleaning product. Now my house is an absolute wreck! The dishes are piled up and the kitchen floor desperately needs to be swept! When I get home from work everyday after hanging out with my daughter and putting her to bed, I crash. Fast. Some nights I’ve even fallen asleep with all my lights on! Now it’s come to the point where I have to do mine and my daughter’s laundry during my lunch break. Oh well. No one said it was going to be easy.
