Aliens = Future of Humanity…Maybe

- Author: Megan Aliens

This is kind of farfetched, but I’m kinda starting to believe that aliens are really just humans from the future who have developed means to time travel.  Think about it. Your typical big-headed, bulgy-eyed, frail-bodied, little, green alien appears to be built in just the direction we are headed. With humans growing smarter and smarter as the years progress and intelligence equaling power now more than ever, it’s no surprise that we will eventually evolve bigger heads to accommodate and ever expanding vault of intelligence. There is already skeletal evidence that suggests that human’s heads are evolving to be larger. The average newborn’s skull does not fit through the average woman’s pelvic girdle without ripping, tearing and some breaking of the pelvis. This is not so for other animals. Other species have a much easier time giving birth than we humans do. It also makes sense for use to adapt to being bombarded by information by evolving larger, more complex eyes. With weather reports, news tickers, live footage and an anchor person all piled onto any news broadcast at one time, it would be nice to be better able to absorb it all. And since we are becoming more reliant on computers and machines, our bodies are not as useful as they once were for survival. AS far as the green skin goes, well that’s just Hollywood putting an interesting spin on things. Unless of course using nanotechnology, we are one day able to infuse ourselves with the means to photosynthesis and gain nutrients from the sun. That might make the green skin a reality.

Fantastic Mr. Fox

- Author: Megan Movies

Over the weekend I watched “Fantastic Mr. Fox”. Despite the animation factor, this movie is still very obviously a Wes Anderson movie with it’s simple speech and witty dry humor. All of the characters are very uncomplicated and embody a deep honesty. Even though Mr. Fox hides some goings on from his wife, he is still very honest about who he is. The movie is based to the book by Roald Dahl and keeps with the same basic plot: some angry farmers get tired of sharing with a sneaky fox and decide to do something about it. It’s a pretty standard kid’s book theme, but the movie manages to be charming for people of all ages. Instead of using fowl language, the characters in the movie replace four-letter words with “cuss”. This too is a pretty Wes Anderson way of doing things. By having Mr. Fox exclaiming “Don’t cussing point at me!” kids aren’t exposed to profanity, but adults get to enjoy more mature jokes. “Fantastic Mr. Fox” is visually delightful and unique. I found it refreshing to watch a movie that wasn’t negative or profane, but still entertaining with all of it’s simplicity and imagination. George Cloony’s voice as Mr. Fox is incredibly convincing and affective along with the rest of the all star cast. While the animals are all sneaky thieves throughout the movie, their actions seem to be sanctioned by mother nature herself. Mr. Fox and his family make the farmers look like inhumane beasts for wanting to protect their goods.

8 heart-melters

- Author: Megan General

Eight things that melt my heart: 1) When my little dog, Patrick, sings. When I sing to him he catches on immediately and tries to keep up with my pitch. He throws his little head back so far when he howls that tips over backwards though, so it’s important to hold him up. 2) My friends. My close friends can convince me to participate in just about any bad idea they come up with. I just can’t say no. Presents from them are always the best. They know me better than anyone. 3) “I love you”. When it’s said right, by the right person at just the right time it makes me want to cry. I don’t cry though. That’s just not what I do. 4) Kids with disabilities. They are to young to realize they are different and just do whatever they need or want to do without a care in the world. Disabled kids are one of the most inspirational forces out there. 5) My mom. The way my mom looks at me when she feels like I’ve achieved something is just great. I know she thinks everything I do is a big deal and it’s just so cute. 6) Baby animals. Baby humans make me nervous, but baby animals are just so cute when they fall over, yawn, make noise or sleep. 7) A specific person’s eyes. 8) Stocking stuffers. My grandmother is is still adamant about make sure I get them. They are always the same things, pecans, walnuts, apples, nail files, cookies, and five dollars. I’m not sure why.

The Zoo

- Author: Greg Zoo

Going to the zoo has to be one of my favorite childhood memories. My mom would always take me and a friend for an afternoon of fun amongst the animals. Besides the smell, the zoo has so much to offer. I’ve always gone to the Dallas zoo although I’ve heard the Fort Worth Zoo is much better. The prices are really reasonable and they have the neatest stuff in the gift shop. They also have strollers to rent which is really convenient for parents with multiple kiddos. I remember the first thing you see when you walk through the gates are the flamingos. Flamingos have to be the most random animals God put on this earth. They stand on one foot and are pink? Anyways, you have the option to feed them which is fun for children. I swear some people spend half of their time there just staring at those damn birds. After you manage to get past them, the path guides you to the reptile house. Yuck. I don’t mind looking at snakes. I think they’re actually pretty cool but lizards are definitely not for me. I usually prefer to move onto the butterflies which are strangely located next to all those creepy crawlers. They’re so graceful and pretty. Wow, I sound like a 5 year old little girl, but it’s true. I’m sure all guys’ favorite part of the zoo (and only reason for being drug along) are all the lions and tigers and bears oh my! It really is amazing to see these creatures close up. I think most people don’t realize how big these guys are until they see them for themselves! I can’t wait to take my next trip to the zoo and hopefully bring my daughter along to see all of the unique animals.

Cat People

- Author: Greg Animals

My immediate family would be considered “cat people”. We have lots of cats and we love everything about them. We are weird with them, we don’t let them outside, and they are more spoiled than most children I know of. I have my own cat, her name is Nermal and she is morbidly obese. She’s on a strict diet plan, but for some reason will not lose the weight. She is now 13 years old though and was just diagnosed with diabetes. Yes, we take out cats to the doctors to get them througholy checked out. She has to take medication for her diabetes twice a day in pill form. So, someone has to shove a pill down her throat twice a day for her to stay alive. I love her so much, she is my baby, and I wish she lived here with me but she has to stay with my parents. Then, we have others. Little Boy, or Scooter, is officially my brother’s cat. He’s insane and doesn’t have a tail, and he’s huge. Then, we have Pikachu. She’s an asshole who hates everyone but my dad and is a total antisocial outcast among the other cats. She wont even let me pet her, so I don’t much care for her. Then, we have Malone. She hates the other cats too, but since she can kick all their asses she has her own bedroom. Yeah, she stays in her own room in our house where she doesn’t leave and the other cats don’t go in. We are cat obsessed. I don’t understand people who say they hate cats when they’re never around them, you have no idea how much personality they have. Dogs are cool, I love dogs, but they are just obedient to their owners. Cats will do what they want and be their own… “person. I love my Nermal cat and there will never be another cat like her.

Bailey

- Author: Greg Dogs

A pound is the worst place for an animal lover to go near. It seems like we always want to go to the pound to “look at the animals”, but I don’t think it’s possible to leave there with out saving one of them. The last time I went to the pound to look around, I looked around and found the dog that I have now. She was a pretty tan puppy with a dark stripe down her back. I loved her and wanted her then. They told me that they were about to put her down because she was covered in ticks, and I knew that my parents didn’t want me to get a dog, so I said I would just take her home and give her tick baths until they were all gone and then I would bring her back to have her adopted to someone else. Yeah, right. I took her home, and gave her a bath. Nothing. My dad and I ended up sitting down with her for over 2 hours pulling them off her, and ended with over 200 ticks in a cup of gasoline and a clean puppy named Bailey. Of course I didn’t take her back. She’s now living at home with my parents because I couldn’t take care of her in an apartment while I was in school. And now, they have their own dog, and they are best friends. I’m still glad that I got her out of the pound even though she doesn’t live with me, and I know that my parents are glad to have her to.

Animals

- Author: Greg Animals

I love animals. Let me rephrase that, I love ANY and ALL animals. They’re the best! Ever since I was little, I’ve been crazy about them. It seems like my favorite animal was always changing. That’s the mind of a child for you though. At first it was monkeys, then I went through a seal stage, and I remember loving horses too. I was always trying to convince my parents to buy me the most random pets. I even had a sugar glider at one point. They’re like flying squirrels but even smaller. Poor thing. It died within in a week because apparently they have some sort of stress hormone that can be activated if they are lonely. So pretty much my poor little guy died of a broken heart! I was one devastated 7th grader. I also had a hamster named Cookie that I basically killed. I was trying to be a responsible pet owner and prove to my parents that I was worthy of having a pet so I took extra good care of him at first. Then my mom started griping about how bad his cage smelled so he started living in the garage. One day we were getting in the car to head to school and I noticed that cookie was in the same spot that he’d been in for a couple days. Well, needless to say, he was as hard as a rock and it was my fault for not refilling his water bottle. I felt horrible! I still do actually. I guess I decided that I was going to be the best animal owner ever after that because it seems like we doubled in pets those next few years! I currently have a dog, a cat, and a fish and with an 8 month old running around, things can get a little hectic! Don’t worry though. They’re all fed and watered on a daily basis!
