My favorite bars are cold weather bars. I like little cozy places with wooden floors and a tight-knit staff. Cold weather bars are always nice and toasty inside, which makes walking into them even more delightful. I hate going into a place in the winter and still having to keep my coat and scarf on to keep from getting cold. If I’m going into a bar when it’s cold outside, I already plan on drinking a cold beer, the last thing I want to to have a cold nose as well. One of my favorite things about visiting my family in Wisconsin during the winter is all of the little pubs. They are all just small holes in the wall, but they come equipped with fire places, darts boards, pretty wooden stool, a friendly bar tender and lots of neighborly people who are all captivated by my Texas accent. People up north have cold weather bars down solid. They know just how to make it a great, toasty atmosphere without stifling people. I don’t know if this is a technique that they learn, or if it’s just instinctual for Yankees, but I envy it either way. I know it’s just not practical for most places in West Texas to have a fire place since it rarely gets that cold for vary long, but still, it would be nice. There are a few cozy places around town in the winter, but they still don’t quite seem to grasp the northern way of doing things.
