Movies
Scary movies and stories are my favorite things to indulge in. I know it sounds strange to think of terror as an indulgence, but I really do love it. I like the feeling of being scared and jumpy as well as not knowing what is about to happen. Since I’ve seen so many horror flicks it takes a lot to actually scare me these days so I mainly thrive on the suspense more than anything else. However, when a movie comes along that is actually realistic and spooky enough to make me scared, it engulfs me and has me afraid of walking in the dark for days. Working with the Medical Examiner and performing autopsies, blood and guts just isn’t a source of scary anymore for me. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good slasher flick as much as the next person, but all those are is exciting, not scary for me. Movies that are based on true events or insanely realistic are my favorites. The Strangers, Silence of the Lambs, and The Exorcist, are still scary every time I watch them. In addition to being entertaining little bits of sunshine in my life, watching scary movies with friends or dates always makes for a good time. It is always fun to watch people jump or jump out and scare them during an intense scene. Cuddling up to a guy is also fun during a gory movie. It lets the guy pretend to be big and tough while I pretend that I’m scared and need his manly courage to protect me.

Friendship
Friends are a a great thing to have, but they can also be a pain in the ass sometimes. Take my best friend for example. She goes through these phases where she won’t talk to me for months. Why you ask? I have no idea. She can be a rel pain in the ass. We live in different cities now so maybe that’s why she’s being bitchy this time around. It’s possible that she got upset when I left New Mexico for other things. We lived together for quite a while, but it was time for me to go so I gave her a months notice and headed down the road. She told me she wasn’t upset at all and that all was fine, but it’s been over a month and she hasn’t had anything to do with me since I left. Despite my best efforts to be proactive about our friendship, she has acted despondent and short with me since my departure. This isn’t the first time she has been like this. She never has anything to do with me unless we live in the same town and she is single. Provided those variable are in my favor, my friend is the best one anyone could ever hope for. I’m tired of feeling she abandons me whenever we live far apart or when she has someone better to hang out with. It’s irritating, but at the end of the day, she is still there if I ever need her. I guess that’s all you can really hope for in a best friend. We all go through our ups and downs and I’ve come to accept the downs for what they are and welcome the ups no matter how shitty my friends acts in the mean time.

Cats
When my sister was in college, she got a kitten from the pound. Her name is Malley. She is now about 7 years old, and still living with my sister and her husband. My sister has always talked to the cat, so she meows NON STOP. Any time you’re around her she just meows even though she doesn’t need anything. It’s cute to have something follow you around all the time and want attention, but she’s hard to get used to because she’s so vocal. A few years ago, my sister got a little Boxer dog and named her Sadie. Sadie is one of the smallest full grown boxers I have ever seen because she was the runt, but she’s really cute and pretty. She has a fear of men, and we aren’t sure why since they got her as a puppy, but with some men she hides and wont let them touch her. Now, she has them both living in the house. It’s so cute to see how they can interact so well. I can’t imagine trying to get my cats to be comfortable around a big dog, they would hide or attack him. They just live in the same house, and never have fights. I would be scared to have my dog around cats because she would kill the cat, and leave my cats with a dog because they would attack him. So, the fact that they can just leave the pets there together all the time with no supervision is really nice. Someday, when I get pets, I want mine to be able to get along and be friends.

Being an only child has it’s ups and downs. On one hand, I got to be very spoiled as a child, both materially and emotionally. On the other hand, I did not have a sibling around to learn from or play with. As an only child I learned to use my imagination a lot and create ways to have fun by myself. Sure I had friends, but they were not always around and being so young, I could not just go out and about to meet up with people or go shopping to kill time. I learned to busy myself by carrying on conversations with my toys and drawing on the wall. Since my mother wasn’t one to tell me “No”, instead of taking away my crayons when I colored the walls, she designated a specific wall in my room that was just for my coloring pleasure. Today I am grateful for how I grew up even if at the time I felt bored and denied of companionship. Despite being spoiled, I have grown into a confident, independent adult. By allowing me to express my creativity when I was young, my mother helped me to develop as an artist and problem solver. I am glad that I can still think “outside the box” and come up with entertaining antics that don’t always have to involve going out to the bars. Going to the bars is definitely a good time, but I think it’s also important to be able to have a good time sober. This skill came in very handy when I was living in a small town and didn’t have much of a night life to chose from.

Friendship
I have always loved to work out, and just recently started hitting the gym again with my new membership. I love to just go into the gym, have my head phones on, and get to work. I have to feel a good sweat while I’m there, and when I leave I want to feel more energized than when I got there. This is a tactical feat when you go with friends, in my opinion. I’ve always loved working out alone, but some times friends want to go with or want me to go with them. I’ve done it, several times, and most of the time I leave with out even sweating. When ever I get anywhere with my friends, we love to talk. And so, we get on that rampage, and we can’t do anything that will take our breaths away because we need them to talk to each other. We’ll just end up sitting on the mats and stretching and catching up on the latest gossip we have, and then before we know it, we’ve been there for an hour and have done nothing but stretch. Some of my friends I can work out with, as long as they have on their head phones too we can work together and get things done, but most of the time we get side tracked. I’d never be able to work out with a guy because they do things so different, so I think I better stick to going to the gym alone if I want to get anything done!

Eight things that melt my heart: 1) When my little dog, Patrick, sings. When I sing to him he catches on immediately and tries to keep up with my pitch. He throws his little head back so far when he howls that tips over backwards though, so it’s important to hold him up. 2) My friends. My close friends can convince me to participate in just about any bad idea they come up with. I just can’t say no. Presents from them are always the best. They know me better than anyone. 3) “I love you”. When it’s said right, by the right person at just the right time it makes me want to cry. I don’t cry though. That’s just not what I do. 4) Kids with disabilities. They are to young to realize they are different and just do whatever they need or want to do without a care in the world. Disabled kids are one of the most inspirational forces out there. 5) My mom. The way my mom looks at me when she feels like I’ve achieved something is just great. I know she thinks everything I do is a big deal and it’s just so cute. 6) Baby animals. Baby humans make me nervous, but baby animals are just so cute when they fall over, yawn, make noise or sleep. 7) A specific person’s eyes.
Stocking stuffers. My grandmother is is still adamant about make sure I get them. They are always the same things, pecans, walnuts, apples, nail files, cookies, and five dollars. I’m not sure why.

Travel
Hostels are great ways to travel. Well, it depends on the country and hostel. Can’t say that a hostel in Mumbai or Singapore is your best bet, but luckily, real hotels are cheap in most sketchy places. Websites like hostelworld.com are usually pretty good about givin ya the lowdown on hostels just about anywhere you might want to go. Most of the hostels I have stayed in go for around 10-12 U.S. dollars a day. Not only are they good for traveling on a budget, but you will meet lots of other travelers who turn into companions on tours or while visiting local attractions. If your lucky, and likable, you can make lots of cool friends from all over the world at hostels. That means you always have somewhere to stay whenever you go to whatever country your new friends are from.
Lots of people who stay in hostels are traveling alone and welcome company so it’s easy to get to know folks. Also, if your at a hostel, chances are, you enjoy traveling. Likewise, everyone else around you does as well. Folks are usually pretty trade travel stories. This can give ya lots of ideas on where you may want to go next. One downside to stayin in hostels is that they can sometimes be loud. Generally you are sleeping on a twin bunk bed with lots of other people snoozin around you. There will inevitably be a snorer, sleep talker, farter, or a guy on the phone talking dirty to his girlfriend. Those variable just add to the experience though. Besides, when your traveling there is always a lot of transportation time when you can sleep. Planes, trains, cars, buses, etc… make for good sleepin time.

Baby
My friend Kayla and her husband Cliff had their baby on Saturday! They were worried that she might go into labor at an inopportune time, so they decided to induce her and help the pregnancy along so they would have the baby before the holidays so the family would get to meet him while everyone was visiting. She was induced in the morning and he arrived around 1 pm! His name is Maddox Grant and he is precious. He was 19 and a half inches long and weight 6.75 pounds. She is lucky that he was pretty small! I can’t believe it still, it’s so exciting. Tomorrow I am going to head to Amarillo and meet him, and get to see her. This is just getting me more and more excited about my sister’s baby, because it will be the first time I am an aunt. We really haven’t had many babies in our family that are close to us, all of the recent babies have been born in California and I only get to see them a few times a year. Now, one of my best friends has a baby only a few hours away from me and my sister is going to have one in April. Babies everywhere now! I can’t wait until tomorrow, this will be the youngest baby I have ever held in my life, and I can’t wait to see Kayla and Cliff and get to meet new baby Maddox!

Baby
My friend Kayla is about to pop. She is due on November 24th, but they have decided to induce labor on Saturday the 21st if she hasn’t had him yet. I saw her a little over a month ago and she had gotten bigger, but now I bet she looks a lot different. So, the next time I see her she will have a little baby on the outside instead of the inside. I can’t wait, I love babies. I’m going home this week for Thanksgiving and I’m planning to stop and see her, so he will only be a few days old when I get to meet him. It seems like she just told me she was pregnant, but it was actually so long ago. Time goes by so fast now. After this little baby comes I know it will seem like no time when my niece or nephew is born in April. I sit here and talk about how quick it goes by, and I remember people always saying that to me when I was younger. I remember always hearing that I was changing so much every time I saw family I hadn’t seen in awhile, and now I understand what they meant. I hope that I can be there a lot of the time because I know that the feeling that things are going by really fast is not going to go away. I better take a lot of pictures and be there as much as I can!

Relationships
I’ve been dating my boyfriend here for awhile, and we have a good thing going on. One of the most obvious indicators for me to know that our relationship is good and healthy is that we both still have our friends. “What?” you ask, and by that I mean we still have our own lives. This is so important for a relationship to work out for the long run. Most couples get stuck on eacho ther in the beginning, and stop hanging out with their friends or doing things they used to do on their own. A lot of my friends will start dating a new guy, and I wont see them for months. And usually when I do see them it’s because they broke up. They get stuck together, spend every second with one another, and then get sick of each other quickly. It is very important for a person to set aside time for just themselves, whether it be actually hanging out alone or going out with their friends with out their significant other. This is a luxury we have as young adults dating. You are not married. You do not live together. You have the opportunity to do what ever you want while your younger and still be in a relationship, something that use to be very uncommon a generation ago. Marriage will be great, but for right now I like how things are for us. We are young and we are having fun, and it’s perfect.
