Traveling for Thanksgiving is not something everyone will be doing this year. The gas prices are soaring again and the plane tickets are overly priced. I tried to get the money together just to travel to Oklahoma and back and with the gas to get down there and the gas to drive around up there and then get back the dollar signs were soon getting larger than they had been. I tried to make a budget to get to Oklahoma and back and use it to the best of my ability but the budget was beginning to bust. I don’t understand why I was the one nominated since the family in Oklahoma has no issues with money. So I tried to re do the budget and still get up there but the harder I try to stretch our money just for gas to get up there it still isn’t working. We would still have to get a motel to stay somewhere and have food for the entire weekend. I tried explaining this to my husband and of course he wants me to find a way because it is his family. I don’t understand why he isn’t getting the fact that a dollar can only stretch so far. However my budget revision will continue the rest of the night until tomorrow morning and we will decide Thanksgiving Eve whether we will be going or not

College
During one summer while I was in college, I decided that I didn’t want to have a job because I was taking some classes and didn’t think I would have time to work and go to school everyday. During this time, I became, self proclaimed, the worlds cheapest chef. My parents were covering my rent for me since I wasn’t able to work, but that’s about it. I invented some dishes that cost less than 20 cents a serving. Living like this made me wonder, really, how families were claiming to have no food so they had to go to McDonalds because that’s all they could afford. McDonalds costs a lot when you really don’t have anything, and it’s only good for one meal. Now, a bag of pasta elbows and a can of Hunts tomato sauce together cost less than two bucks and makes a pound of edible, not so bad food. This is something I ate ALL the time. Tomato macaroni. I’d put in some pepper and delicious hot meal right at me for the cost of about nothing. A can and corn, 60 cents, and that’s a decent lunch for me. One time I didn’t have any tomato sauce, so I pulled a Kraft Single into little pieces and put it on the hot pasta when they were done boiling, and BAM instant mac and cheese. A box of brown rice, and bag of frozen veggies, around two bucks. That would last me tons of meals. I splurged on some delicious sauce and just added a bit of that on top, maybe some pineapple if I had some, and that is a meal I’ll still eat to this day, even though I’m not suffering. Just a pound of hamburger meat can get you really far when you are hungry, so stop going to fast food places when you’re low on cash. Poor college kids, take notes from the chef herself.
