I know that staring at a screen all day is not the most healthy activity for our eyes. Human beings evolved on the open plains as hunters and we were tuned to see far distances in the light. We have poor night vision which is why most everyone, even those on the graveyard shift, get tired at night. We evolved in such a way that our sleep patterns were molded from our inability to be productive at night. I am sitting here staring at this computer screen, typing away and after a few hours I start to get nauseous and my head starts to hurt. It makes me think that this can’t be good for me. Plus I know that I’m not tuning my long range sight abilities by being ten inches from the screen, so wonder what good I am doing for my eyes. I guess maybe I’m doing my children a favor by sacrificing my eyes so that their eyes will be more attuned to looking at a computer screen. That is how evolution would have it, one generation must suffer with inadequate equipment so as to make an investment in further generations adaptation. That doesn’t stop my head from hurting, my eyes from stinging, or my stomach from being in a knot. I have no idea why the stomach feels the need to get involved, it doesn’t have anything to do with sight. Oh, well, I guess it’s just that misery loves company so the stomach figures what the hell, might as well join the pity party. Oh that stomach, such a bandwagoner.

I have been taking a mid day cat nap for the past few days and I highly recommend them to anyone and everyone. I have never been one to nap. Either from being too busy, or just never really having the means to take nap, from being at school, or work, or just not near a place to curl up and sleep for a spell, I have just not had the lifestyle that has lent itself to taking a nap. Well, the past few days I have been able to steal a few afternoon hours for a bit of shut eye and man o man, let me tell you, it is just great. I wake up around 5 in the afternoon and after the initial grogginess is over I am refreshed and rejuvenated, ready for the night. I am not like I was when I was 19 years old and I could be active all day, come home and take a shower then go out and party all night. Those days are behind me. My youthful energy has been traded in for age and wisdom. I wouldn’t change things. I wouldn’t say that I want to be young again, I just need to adjust my lifestyle to fit the life I lead. I realized a few months ago that this daily siesta would work well, and it has. I feel like I still have a few years of wanting to go out at night every now and again, so I prepare by napping. I have also realized that I am more well rested the next day when I get a nap the afternoon before. I am not sure what scientific evidence there is of how a nap helps you, but I do know that if you don’t get your needed eight hours of sleep at night you will increase your chance of stroke or heart failure later in life. If you don’t get a full eight hours of sleep you can “catch up” by taking a mid day nap. So relax, and try to nap yourself into happiness and awakeness.

Are there any other girls out there who feel like bras are a little archaic? It seems like since it is almost 2010, someone would have come up with a more technologically advanced bra. I mean, there have been advancements in materials just like in computers. That’s why we don’t sleep on goose feather and straw beds anymore. Even foam has come a long way since it’s invention. Foam can come in different textures like spongy or firm, and even retain the shape of whatever is pressed against it. Why do padded bras only get to come in one standard type of outdated foam, while you can choose from thousands of kinds mattress foams? Women spend a lot more time in their bras than they do in bed, so I think it’s just as important to be able to pick out materials that provide the best support and comfort when buying a bra as when buying a bed. Right? Also, bra makers still use metal for the under wires. Metal used in clothing for structure and support is just about one and a half steps above using whale bones. I would really rather not wear clothing that can be considered an electrical conductor especially since we tend to have a lot of great lightning storms around here. Victoria’s Secret is doing a decent job with bras by making seamless varieties that don’t have itchy little seems ans corners poking your boobs all the time, but even they still use under wires that work themselves out and stab the shit out of you. I just wish someone could develop a bra that does all that it should without being cumbersome or annoying.

Today was just another blah day. The weather wanted to make me crawl into bed and go back to sleep. However unless you have the most awesome child in the whole world then chances are you are going to be up all day. We hummed around the house wishing we could get out and do something. Snow isn’t thick enough to build anything and let her enjoy it and there wasn’t any money to go shopping like I wanted to. Sometimes I wish that money was never an option for anyone so that when I got ready to go out and do something I had no restrictions. However we do in this life and so we stayed at home trying to figure out what was for lunch. My daughter always wants to have chips and hot sauce so we made homemade chips from corn tortillas and had some hot sauce and sat down to watch a Christmas movie. I love when it seems like that time of the year were everything is snowy and Christmas music is playing and you can cuddle up with your kiddos and enjoy their company all day long. After watching a Christmas movie and just relaxing in the warmth of our home blessed to have the things we do have we curled up in a blanket and went to sleep. Little did I know I had a sleeping possum so our great day soon turned into a fun filled clean up the nail polish day.

I have dreams all the time that I remember. I know that everyone dreams, but I think that since I’m such a light sleeper I remember them more easily than most, because a lot of the time I wake up right after I have one. Nightmares are the worst for me, I always wake up right after I have one and then I can never get back to sleep. So, lately, I have been having the same dream and remembering it. It’s a little varied each night, but it’s the same general idea. My friend Carla has some man that has been hiding outside her house, and he’s homeless. She knows this, and each time I have the dream she decides to let him come live in her house with him, kind of like a pet. Most of the times, he just lives there and creeps me out, and I tell her it’s a really bad idea to let him in. Then, I wake up. I feel creeped out, but that it. Then, the other night I had the same dream, but in it I saw that he was like biting her and acting like a dog. I called the cops, and told them, and she got really, really pissed at me for ratting him out because she wanted to keep him. Now, I’m a big believer that dreams are random and don’t mean anything, but why would I keep on having the same weird random dream? I don’t know at all, but I think it has something to do with the fact that I’m talking about it a lot and thinking about it a lot, so it’s just in my head more. I don’t know, but I really hope it’s not correlated with something in the real world that’s going to happen… because if she had a man as a pet, I don’t know if we’d stay friends. Unless he was a nice pet.

Loud neighbors are the worst. I don’t know how people can be so inconsiderate towards their neighbors. I have a lot of experience with living next to loud people. If it’s not a loud inhabitant of the next apartment, it’s a loud roommate. Loud is fine as long as it’s during most people’s waking hours. Someone vacuuming the apartment above yours can be irritating, but understandable during the day. It’s those lunatics who feel like they need to vacuum at four in the morning that I can’t stand. The nighttime vacuumers are bad, but not near as bothersome as the girl next door who’s headboard is always banging against your wall or the guy who pulls up the his apartment next door at midnight and sits in his car with the lights on and music blaring for twenty minutes before he gets done texting and goes inside to be annoying. I know everyone’s got a life to live and they can do whatever they want with it, all I’m asking for is a little consideration. How do you even feel good about yourself when your depriving everyone else of sleep and making them hate your face? Roommates can be as bad as neighbors sometimes. Those idiot roommates who always come in super late and stay up being loud with friends or slamming doors and cabinets everywhere they go bug the crap out of me. I don;t mind it every now and then. Hell, I don’t mind someone being loud up to half of the time, but every night is just rude.

There are so many different types of alarm clocks. You can get the ones with the big digital numbers on them, with the annoying beep beep beep sound that wakes you up. There are the ones that wake you with the sound of music, either you choose the song or the radio station. Some people like to use the alarm clocks on their TV’s to wake them, but I don’t think this would work very well for me since I like to fall asleep with my TV on. I think one of the most common alarm clocks people use these days are their cell phones. I don’t have a clock in my room because I don’t like to have the light when I’m trying to sleep, so I have used my cell phone as my alarm clock probably since I was 16. The best alarm clock in the world is your internal one, though. Once you have it trained, it really does work. Every day I wake up at 8:15 am or right around there, even if my alarm clock isn’t set. When I was in college this didn’t work because I was never on the same sleep schedule every day, and I took random naps all the time that really messed with it. But, once you get it going on a pretty normal schedule it really does continue to wake you up everyday, even on the weekend or when you don’t need to wake up. I wouldn’t throw my alarm clock away or anything and trust it, but it’s cool that my body has it’s own built in alarm clock.

I am the lightest sleeper in existence. If you stare at me when I’m sleeping it will wake me up. I can’t stand any type of lights in my room when I’m sleeping, so I can’t have an alarm clock in there. I have to put take over the little light on the power button on my TV. For many years, I had to put foil over my windows, but I got into trouble at my apartment complex so now I have thick black curtain to block out the evil sun. Depending on if I’m at home or at my apartment here in Lubbock, my door has to be open a certain width for me to be able to sleep. I prefer all other doors in the room to be closed. I don’t like my fan to be very high, because I sleep in my contacts and it dries them out. All of these things are slowly getting to be easier to deal with, but I still have a hard time sleeping if I’m disturbed. Especially now that I’m working the same hours every day it’s easier for me to go to bed and not be woken up in the middle of the night for stupid reasons because I’m actually tired. When I was younger it was really bad, I would get so mad if someone messed with how my door was open because I thought my cat wouldn’t be able to get into the room. Now, I don’t even have tape on my TV power button anymore! Look at me I’m slowly growing up.

General News
As the Queen of napping, the article I found earlier about afternoon naps made me pretty happy. When I was in college, I had to take a nap everyday or I just couldn’t function right. I don’t know what it was, but it everyday after class and before work I would lock myself in my room for an hour or two and just sleep. I even had foil tapped up over my windows so that it was always dark in the bedroom. Sometimes it threw me off for a bit when I woke up and thought it was morning or in the middle of the night, but it was the only way I felt like I could go to work or get any of my homework done. Now, I never take naps. I go home and run non-stop until I finally go to bed around 2 in the morning (if I’m lucky to get to bed then), only to wake up at 8 or earlier to get ready and go to work. The article says that the national sleep foundation says that 20 to 30 minute naps are awesome for you. They can elevate your mood and make you more alert at work. The groggieness usually comes in the middle of the afternoon and is made worse if you eat a big lunch, so taking a quick nap should help you out and wake you up a bit. I think with this new information it should be required that all places of work have mandatory nap times after lunch for all employees, punishment enforced if you do not attend. Right? Right. Let’s make that happen.

Dreams
Sometimes I wish there were some sort of medicine I could take that would make me not remember my dreams. Don’t get me wrong, I love to dream but I believe with all my heart that my dreams are more vivid and real than they’re suppose to be. Maybe it’s some strange condition that hasn’t been discovered yet. I’d love to be the guinea pig on a case study because wow! I have some intense dreams. My dreams are so real that whatever emotion or physical feeling I would be feeling in real life, I feel in my sleep. For example, lets say I dreamt that I was in a blizzard. Not only would I be cold and miserable, but I would feel the sensation of my teeth chattering and my nose being colder than the rest of my face. Another example would be my high school sweetheart breaking up with me. That happened so long ago but the pain and tears feel so real. I’ve even woke up crying before. It’s like all the details of real life are with me in my dreams as well. Maybe I’m not the only one out there with this “condition.” I just don’t understand. I know your brain shuts down your body when you sleep so that you can’t actually act out your dreams but why can’t it shut down your memory completely? Dreams are just supposed to be fun, faint memories right?
